Creamy Oat Milk
Oatmilk….almond milk’s cool cousin
This recipe is quick and simple. Oat milk is another plant based alternative to cow’s milk that has soared in popularity more recently. Oat milk is a great alternative to cream in coffee or tea.
Ingredients
1 cup rolled or quick oats
4 cups water (more or less depending if you like your milk thinner or thicker)
2 Medjool dates
Pinch of salt
Directions
Soak the oats in enough water to cover them for at least 30 minutes. You can soak them overnight.
Drain the oats through a strainer and rinse them with fresh water. This helps to make sure the oats don’t have a slimy consistency. Discard soaking water or add it to your favorite smoothie.
Using a high powered blender combine soaked oats, dates, water, & salt (mine is a DASH), blend for 3-4 minutes.
Strain the oat milk mixture using cheesecloth, a fine strainer, or nut milk bag (I used Bigger Better Nut Milk Bag).
Store in a sealed container for up to 5 days. Shake before using.
Hints
You can omit the salt if you are watching your sodium intake.
Add-ins: cinnamon, nutmeg, or cocoa/cacao for a little chocolatey treat
